Madame Curie




Respected Women in World Science History.

 Full Name -  Marie Sklodowsaka Curie

She was born in Warsaw, Poland on 7th November'1867 and was died on 4th July'1934. Her husband was Pierre Curie, She have two daughters Irene Joliot Curie & Eve Denise Curie .  She achieved degrees in Physics  and Mathematics. She discovered radioactive elements Radium and Polonium.

Some Facts related to Madame Curie:-

1. First to used the term "Radioactivity".

2. First women in Europe to received the "Doctorate in Science".

3. Became the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903.this award was jointly  with Pierre Curie ( Husband ), and Henri Becquerel for the discovery of Radioactivity.

4. First Woman Lecturer , Professor and Head Of Laboratory at the Sorbonne University, Paris.

5. She got second Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1911 for discovery and isolation of pure Radium and Radium components.

6. First woman to received Gold medal from the Radiological Society of North America in 1922 and The American College of Radiology in 1931.

7. First Woman who has been laid to rest under the famous dome of the Pantheon , Paris.

Discovery of Radium was a big achievement to basic change in our understanding of matter and energy. Radium is very helpful in cancer treatment, Atomic clocks, Computers etc. Madame Curie became a member of The League of Nations in 1922.

She was said " In Science, We Must Be Interested In Things, Not In Persons".
