- The Volcanoes of Hawaii and Sicily's Mount Etna are called 'quiet volcanoes'. This is because they contain fluid,runny magma.Since gases can easily escape from runny magma,'quiet volcanoes don't explode. They emit long streams of hot lava.
- About ten stars are born each year in our Galaxy. That is almost one a month. A similar number of stars die each year.
- SINGS Programme, (Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey), A kind of Project, Where Spitzer Space Telescope observed 75 galaxies. This project aims at characterizing the infrared properties of a wide range of galaxy types besides details of star formation, dust emission, and the distribution of stars in each galaxy. It was carried out between 2003 and 2006.
- Shorebirds like the redshank feed on tiny crustaceans called Corophium which live in the mud of estuaries and seashores. As many as 40,000 of these crustaceans can be eaten by one bird in a single day.
