Guillain-Barre Syndrome



It is a kind of rare disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system.





- In this, Varying degrees of weakness,tingling sensations in the legs; the weakness and abnormal sensations spread to the arms and upper body.

- The intensity may increase until the patient is almost totally paralysed. In such cases, the disorder is life threatening and is considered a medical emergency. 

- Usually, it occurs a few days or weeks after the patient had a respiratory or gastro intestinal viral infection. The disorder can develop over the course of hours or 3 to 4 weeks.

- No one yet knows why this disorder strikes some people or what triggers the disease. There is no  known cure but the patient is put on a respirator. Most patients, however recover from even the most serve cases.
