The 59- day pilgrimage to the Himalayan cave shrine in south Kashmir's Anantnag district will begin on July 2 and conclude on August 29. The Shrine, situated 14,500 ft above the sea level, houses an ice stalagmite structure which waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon.
Two routes to Amarnath Shrine:-
1. Pahalgam :- Via this it will 34 km, A 3 day trek with two night halts at Sheshnag & Panjtarni.
PAHALGAM=>Chandanwari=> Pissu Top => Zoji Bal => Naga Koti => Sheshnag => Warbal => Mahagunstop => Pabibal > Panjtarni => Sangam => Shrine
2. Baltal:- Via this it will 14 km, Shorter one day route
Baltal => Domail => Barari => Sangam => Shrine
Keep in Mind:-
1. Getting Registered
- The registration is on from March 1. Yatris can get registered on the spot at five special counters set up by the government in Jammu city. The registration can also be done at 430 designated branches of J & K Bank, YES Bank and Punjab National Bank.
2. Quick Chopper Service
- Pilgrims can register themselves on Global Vectra Helicorp Ltd, Pawan Hans and Himalayan Heli Services websites. The service - providers have offices in Srinagar also. The one- way per passenger fare from Neelgrath- Panjtarni is 1,950/- INR. and 4,190 from Pahalgam - Panjtarni. However, copters can ferry only 1,000 pilgrims per day.
3. Heavy Security
- As many as 70 paramilitary companies along with State Police and Army personnel will be deployed for Yatris's security. 19 mountain rescue and avalanche rescue teams, each comprising 10 personal , 20 dog squads will also be put in place.
4. Braving Rough Weather
- Pilgrims should be prepared to face hostile weather. The average temp along the route is 10 degree Celsius. The temperature at the cave varies between 2.4 and 7 degrees. The weatherman has predicated light rain in the area in the coming days.
5. Facilities En Route
- A team of 32 doctors and paramedical staff have been deployed along the Yatra route. Power and water are being supplied to all Yatra camp. Over 2,500 toilets have been installed and firewood supplies are in place at five camps. As many 176 pre- fabricated huts have been erected.
DO'S
- Start 4-5 km walk a week before embarking on Yatra.
- Carry warm clothing, raincoat, waterproof shoes, torch and gloves.
- Keep a slip with your name, address and name of accompanying yatri handy.
- Carry Water bottle, dry fruit and basic medicines such as disprin and glucose.
- Take small breaks, don't exert yourself.
DONT'S
- Avoid stops at places with 'Warning signs'
- Don't take drug.
- Stay away from Oily / fried food during Yatra.
- Avoid slippers, wear shoes.
- Refrain from taking short cuts en route.
** Daily Limit:- The government allows 15,000 Yatris - 7,500 from each route - To visit the shrine daily.
