TEACHER'S DAY (Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishanan)

 Born, 5 September 1888, in a Niyogi Telgu Brahmin family at a village near Thiruttani 84 km to the northwest of  Chennai.




The First Vice President &  second President of India, academic philosopher Dr. SARVEPALLI RADHAKRISHNAN. It is considered a "celebration" day, where teachers and students report to school as usual but the usual activities and classes are replaced by activities of celebration, thanks and remembrance. 

Dr. SARVEPALLI RADHAKRISHNAN, was a distinguished scholar and statesman, moreover He was India's most beloved Teacher.

- He served as Professor of Philosophy at Mysore (1918-21)and Calcutta (1921 - 31; 1937 - 41) universities.
- As Vice Chancellor of Andhra Pradesh University (1931 - 36).
- He was Professor of Eastern Religions and ethics at University of Oxford in England (1936- 52).
As Vice Chancellor of Benares Hindu University (1939 - 48) 
As  Chancellor of  University of Delhi (1953 - 62) 

Dr. SARVEPALLI RADHAKRISHNAN led the Indian delegation to UNESCO IN 1946 - 52 and was elected chairmen of UNESCO'Executive Board (1948 -49).

From 1949 to 1952 He served as Indian Ambassador to the Soviet Union.

On his return to India in 1952 He was elected Vice President, 

And, Finally May 11, 1962, He was elected President succeeding Dr. Rajendra Prasad.   

Died 17th April 1975 (Aged 86) at Chennai.
